Many would say that the appeal of a 3D printer lies in its ability to let your imagination (literally) take shape. For many of us, being able to create a small model of something we've imagined and designed is already a dream come true.
But what happens when you don't want to stop at small models? What happens when you're printing a product, not a prototype? You start thinking big, that's what. Still, a print bed is only so big (in our case, about 215mm x 200mm, though we are working on bigger and better things - literally - in our next design. But I digress). Luckily, there's ways to get around the printbed size. Thingiverse user nothinglabs has come up with a script that enables you to print your large objects in a series of interlocking “puzzle pieces,” which can later be snapped together to form a whole. Take a look!
We thought it was pretty clever, and we think you will too. Would you like to know more? Check out our friend Andrew Mazzotta's most recent video, which gives you the lowdown (and rocks it on a LulzBot, no less). It's a great tutorial that will help you work out the abilities and commands in the program, and may even inspire you to scale up and print a favorite design. What will you bring to life?
